Party On A Dime

So today is actually my son Jude's 6th Birthday (and his cousin Graham's B-day who is 8. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRAHAM!). We had a family party on Saturday. A party that was thrown together in about 3 days and one that had a very small budget. You have to get creative when you can't just go buy everything. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

I made a couple of fabric banners completely out of thrifted material. Oh how that material comes in handy. And I happen to love the vintage feel it gives.

His Birthday banner was cut from an old book on hand from the thrift store. I loved the colors in this one.

The party hats were made from paper grocery bags.
Just trace a paper plate and cut out. Then overlap them like so and glue.

I also made little mystery sweet treat bags. Just some sewn parchment paper filled with some cavity bites.
These are our "Thank You" treats to our family that drove for more than half an hour to celebrate with us. I made one of my favorite cookies. Chocolate Mint Crinkles (recipe below) My mom always made these at Christmas time. These suckers are made year round at my house. Ho Ho Ho

Jude wanted a hot dog party. And I have the need to put everything in a pretty container. Including mustard and ketchup. I can't have those ugly bottles sitting out. I mean really!

Over the "Cake Table" we had to have something pretty. My thrift store books came in handy once again. Devil Streamers it is 6 6 6

A simple hot dog buffet

His birthday cake was humble but delicious. I made regular round cakes and cut out circles with IKEA cookie cut outs. I opted for a little less sugar by using powder sugar instead of icing. The cake banner was made with the same book paper as his Happy Birthday Banner. Again, humble but cheap.

Cupcake toppers were made with left over paper bags. I just used a punch I picked up at the thrift store for a $1
